Hailed as one of the best RC cars released in 2008, the HPI Baja 5B SS is as powerful a buggy as you can ask for. This particular kit brought the Baja platform to new heights, bringing tons of improvements that enhanced its speed, power and durability.
Sure to appeal to fans who love to tinker with their cars, the kit allows for plenty of customizations to your Baja buggy racer's looks. The clear body shell leaves itself a blank canvas, allowing you to slap up your choice of paints and designs, using the included pre-cut decals and protective overspray film.
The Baja 5B SS comes with a gunmetal-anodized monocoque main chassis that appears absolutely nasty under the body, all while providing a rigid base for superior performance. Orange anodized Super Sport parts complement the chassis, leaving it even more durable and better-looking.
Power is delivered from a Fuelie 26s gasoline engine, paired with an aluminum tube pipe, delivering faster acceleration and higher top speeds than other desert buggies before it. Working together with the 750cc gasoline tank (which holds enough fuel to see you through 40 to 45 minute runs) and an 8000 RPM clutch (for a quick push during a standing start), it should see you blow through the pack in even the most competitive races. Other notable hop-ups include a new rear shock tower brace, heavy-duty shock set, metal gear steering and ultra-responsive sway bars.
To put it simply, the HPI Baja 5B SS Kit can't be recommended enough. It remains as one of the best buggies in the scene and totally deserves all the praise it has received over the past two years.

HPI's Baja 5B RTR is an off-road sand buggy (in contrast to the HPI Baja 5T, which is a desert truck) that's built in the tradition of the top Baja 1000 racing vehicles. First released in 2006, it spurred plenty of interest in large-scale RCs, a direct result of its realistic on-road performance.
Following the lead of classic Baja buggies, the 1/5th scale model provides long suspension arms and large travel, allowing for plenty of ground clearance with no consequence on quickness. To allow for the extended suspension arms, the 5B uses an extra-strong narrow channel chassis made from a rigid 4mm aluminum alloy.
This authentic driving durability, combined with the unquestionably genuine appearance, makes this RC one of the most compelling desert riders even three years after its release. Of course, it's aided greatly by the brilliantly-painted body shell, buggy-standard Dirt Buster tires and classically-styled high-impact nylon roll cage, all of which come together to complete the vehicle's overall look.
With a pre-installed 23cc "Fuelie" gasoline engine, the Baja 5B RTR starts in a jiffy and dispenses enough power to impress. Despite the size (it's huge at close to 32 inches), you'll find yourself comparing the quickness to buggies that are barely half its length. It can race for a good half hour on a full tank of petrol.
A huge 25 kg-cm steering servo ensures quick steering prowess, even over wet sand areas. You will enjoy uninterrupted control of you buggy from afar with the high-quality TF-10 FM radio gear, which works interference-free and offers extended range support. A battery indicator sits on the console so you can monitor your vehicle's battery life in real time.
For those in search of optimum sand performance in a ride, the HPI Baja 5B RTR is the real deal. If you've ever fancied running around like those Baja 1000 buggies, this is as authentic an experience as you can find in a model car.
